Do Not Ignore Brake Trouble

Do Not Ignore Brake Trouble

Do Not Ignore Brake TroubleSome people are quick to dismiss signs of trouble in their vehicle. Small oil leaks, strange rattles, even the check engine light are all too often ignored. While you may be able to put off some repairs, when it comes to the brakes, they need to be serviced at the first sign of a problem. If you run into any of the following issues do not hesitate to make an appointment with your local auto repair shop for proper brake repair.

Grinding Noises

If you hit the brakes and can hear a grinding, squealing or whining noise your car is due for new brake pads. While some brake pads are designed with a mechanism to create this noise when the pads are low, other times it means the pads are actually nonexistent. The sound you're hearing is metal grinding on metal, which is not safe!

When you hit the brakes the vehicle ought to continue in a straight line without any additional force. If it seems to be pulling left or right there is a good chance of uneven brake pad wear. However this may be caused by a more serious issue, such as impurities in the brake fluid or a damaged wheel cylinder.

Vibrations in Brake Pedal

Vibrations are a very common way to detect an issue with a vehicle. If you can feel the brake pedal shaking it often means that the rotors are warped. The rotors are what the brake pads grab to create the friction to slow your vehicle. If they are warped they may be able to be machined smooth, otherwise they'll need to be replaced.

Soft Brake Pedal

A soft brake pedal could indicate a few different problems. More than likely it simply means your brake pads are low. However this could be representative of a brake fluid leak, which is extremely dangerous.

ABS Dashboard Light

The ABS light is the check engine light for your brakes. It stands for anti-lock braking system and will illuminate when a brake sensor identifies some sort of problem. Head to the shop for proper diagnostics and repair.
