Easy Ways to Reduce Your Fuel Expenses
The general consensus is that gas prices are going to stay soaring for the rest of 2021. This makes it worth finding ways to improve your vehicle's fuel-efficiency. There are certain gas-saving measures you can easily do yourself, while we can quickly take care of others at the shop. At McKonly's Garage, our local mechanics are experts at completing maintenance tasks that can help your car get more miles per gallon.
Tips for Increasing Fuel-Efficiency
While driving to work and back each day, there are a couple of simple measures you can take to help ensure that fuel isn't getting wasted. It's important that you're consistently driving with the right tire pressure. Tire pressure typically needs to be at a point between 30 and 35 psi. It's best to check your tires for their exact pressure specification and then inflate them as required. If you drive with underinflated tires, your engine will have to expend more power to get the soft rubber to roll. As a result, gas mileage is liable to drop. You'll also want to drive with proper tire pressure so that you minimize the risk of a blowout. Another simple way to ensure you're not wasting fuel is to always securely tighten your gas cap after filling up. If your gas cap is loose or missing, fuel could evaporate before you get the chance to use it.
At our shop, we can complete maintenance tasks that will help your vehicle get the best gas mileage possible. Fuel filters should be replaced every 20,000 to 30,000 miles, which will prevent pollutants from hurting gas mileage and performance. It's best to change out air filters every 12,000 to 15,000 miles so that an ample supply of air can get to your combustion chamber. This will prevent your engine from burning excessive fuel to make up for a shortage of air. Spark plug replacement and oil changes are other maintenance measures we can conduct at the shop that will help your car achieve optimal fuel-efficiency.
